The majority of people have the same three reasons for buying a new LCD TV for their homes:
1. They give a much better picture than the old CRT sets2. They can be used with new technology such as HD and Blu-Ray DVDs3. You can have big screens (e.g. 27 inch) without wasting space because they are flat-screen.
But there are a few differences in the specifications of different LCD TV sets that can affect viewing quality greatly. This mostly depends on what kind of TV programmes, films and console games you enjoy. For instance, a die-hard sports fan who has watched many matches on many different screens will probably be able to detect how a set copes with lots of movement. One of the most common faults with LCD sets is called 'telecine judder' which occurs when a set is not designed to show a lot of movement at one time. In this case, those who watch a lot of sports, action films or wildlife documentaries will most certainly want to purchase an LCD TV with specifications that clearly say that it doesn't have telecine judder. To the trained eye this can be extremely irritating.
If this is your very first wide screen TV set then it's also very important to consider the space that you're in. Ask yourself. 'where do I intend to put your LCD TV set and how is it going to affect my living space?'. If you're in a particularly large house, flat, apartment etc. then it's not going to make much of a difference, but studio flats and pokey houses are going to suffer.
The third thing to consider are the special features that you might like your set to include. For instance, do you watch a lot of television or play a lot of console games at night time? We all know that watching/playing in the dark heightens the experience but sometimes it can get too dark. This is why some of the more well known LCD TV companies have designed backlit screens which come with backlit remote controls, so you can see what you're doing at all times, whatever the hour!
The most important thing to remember when you walk into a shop or browse online for LCD TVs is to do your research first and do it thoroughly. There are plenty of online price comparison and review websites with customer opinions on televisions that they have used themselves. Make a list of the ones that seem the mst reliable/have been given the best ratings and choose which one(s) would be best for your needs and desires. Failing that you can ask shop assistants for their expertise but be sure to let them know exactly what you're looking for.
Once you've bought a set then spend an evening setting it up and testing out EVERY feature. If one doesn't work or isn't to your tastes then you'll need to take it back before the guarantee runs out and so you can choose another.
