Thailand Badminton Org Looks Forward to Dominating Sport
Despite the disappointing loss in last year’s Beijing Olympics, Thailand badminton organization officials are still optimistic about their players’ chances in upcoming international competitions.
Badminton Association of Thailand President Charoen Wattanasin said that the country will soon reclaim its place among the top countries in the sport. Thai players Bandid Jaiyen, Sangob Rattanusorn and Preecha Sopajaree have brought victory for the country in the past.
He noticed that there more than half a million badminton players in the country and the sport continues to build popularity among the teens because it is easy to play. He added that there are more than 150 badminton clubs in the country. The organization is also getting support from the Thai Olympic Committee and the Sports Authority of Thailand.
As of this year, there are 59 badminton tournaments being held in the country alone. These are badminton sets organized by BAT. The sales of badminton rackets has gone up.
Wattanasin said that they are looking forward to perform better at the 2012 London Olympics. By preparing for this event, the players will be sent to different international competitions, including the Youth Olympics in Singapore and the Southeast Asian Games later this year.
Earlier this year, 14-year old Thai Rachanok Intanon made waves when she won the Hanoi International Challenge competition in Vietnam, a sign that great things are coming from Thai badminton players.
