Petition Made to Welsh Assembly to Preserve Greenfield Site

A petition has been made to the Welsh Assembly Government asking for their intervention to prevent construction on a site, which is Greenfield land. The petition comes from members of the Pentyrch Community.

The construction project in question is one, which has already been given the green signal by Cardiff council members. The project will involve construction of an International Business Park christened the Westgate Park. The project plans include construction of a regional transport hub within a complex, which will create approximately 100,000 metres of office space. In addition to this, there will be shops, bars, leisure are, restaurant and a five start hotel in the completed business hub. About 100 acres of agricultural are and woodland will be converted to prime commercial space if the project goes through.

According to the sponsors of the project, a lot of international parties looking to rent desk space will be attracted to this business hub. Established businesses and companies within South Wales are not being targeted for relocation, they assured. The new construction could generate new employment opportunities by up to 8000 new jobs.

However, villagers are not happy with the construction of a large scale project on Greenfield land when they claim brownfield land, which has already been constructed on previously, is available nearby. They wish to preserve the currently identified site as it is.

Towards this end, Pentyrch Community Council members have appealed to the Welsh Assembly Government to reject the proposal, which will create the Westgate Park north of the M4 motorway and Junction 33. They have also highlighted the fact that the already congested Junction 33 will be under even greater demand if the project is allowed in this location.
